Background:

Founded in 1942 as a secondary technical school; moved to new, open site on the outskirts of Aylesbury in 1963. A major fire in 1983 prompted redevelopment of the school buildings and there has been further work since, including large-scale building work and modifications to existing buildings. New facilities include specialist accommodation for English, mathematics and modern languages, science, design and technology, music dance, and drama. Two networked IT rooms, two art rooms, a sixth-form centre and a library and resource centre have also opened. The school has a gym, and hard and soft play areas on the site. Broad range of A-level subjects. Pupils are encouraged to take two modern languages and participate in all team sports. The school participates in exchange visits and World Challenge expeditions. It also offers an integrated careers and higher eductaion advisory service. Specialist performing arts college status from September 2002. Over-subscribed, with five applications per place.
