Background:
Prestwood Junior opened as a middle school in 1968 and became a junior school in 1998. It occupies 'pleasant' brick and tile buildings with a main block, courtyard block and individual classrooms. It is set in 'extensive' grounds which include facilities for sports such as football, netball, unihoc, mini-rugby, basketball, cricket and athletics. The gardens offer ponds and other facilities for studying the natural sciences. The school has its own heated outdoor swimming pool which is in use from May until September. Accommodation includes a 'superb' library and specialist rooms for music, ICT and science. French is taught by a specialist teacher in Years 5 and 6. Children are allocated to one of four houses which provide the framework for annual events such as the Easter House Tournament and Sports Day. Pupils also raise substantial funds for charity. The school'serves the village of Prestwood, a commuter settlement in the heart of the Chiltern Hills and 35 minutes from London. Entry has been closed to out-of-reserved-area admissions for some time.
