Background:
Newly opened in 1991, the school attracts families that move to the increasingly popular Buckingham for ease of commuting access to towns such as London, Oxford and Milton Keynes. It has been converted from its original open-plan design into contained classroom units. There is a large playing field and two hard surface playgrounds. It is a community school and has links with pre-school groups, after school care groups, local sporting clubs, Aylesbury Value leisure county sports co-ordinators and the music centre. Extra-curricular activities include drama (two productions per year), music, choir, orchestra, french , art, information technology, gymnastics, games, rugby, football and netball. Bourton's close links with community police involve an intensive 'police week' with year six. This involves talks on issues such as personal safety and drug awareness. The school'supports the national charity each year and responds to international crisis appeals. The school aims to 'develop and support the all-round growth of the individual child in a calm and caring atmosphere'.
