Background:
The present school was opened in 1974, and provides a 'high quality' of education in a 'caring Christian' environment. Initially the education was for children of the mill workers who lived in the valley. Since then the school building has developed from its brick and flint beginnings into a single storey structure with a central hall and 'light airy' classrooms. The 'excellent' facilites include a 'large' library and computer suite with 18 workstations. Outside, there are playing fields, a large tarmac playground, a swimming pool and an environmental area with weather station and pond. St Paul's 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities include team and individual sports. Links with the local community are 'close' and pupils support a range of charities. The nursery has a secure play area with large apparatus and 'extensive' indoor facilities and resources. The school is oversubscribed with two applications for every place.
