Background:
One of 14 selective schools in Buckinghamshire; originally founded as boys' technical school in 1947; became co-educational grammar in late 1960s and became 11-18 school in 1998. Situated on edge of Chesham backing onto Chilterns farmland; most buildings constructed since 1970s, including recently-built leisure centre; more than 2m spent between 1995 and 2004 on new buildings to improve facilities. Pupils come from wide area of south Buckinghamshire and, increasingly, from Hertfordshire. Popular sixth form and wide curriculum, with high standards in English, mathematics, science and traditional subjects, which are offered together with fashion, textiles, food, and craft, design and technology. Large extra-curricular programme; large international programme. International Schools Award (2006).Investor in People status (2006); DfES achievement award (2001, 2003).
